Renfrew was established in the 1940's, after the Calgary Airport relocated from its original site on the corner of 6th Street and Regal Crescent. It was primarily built for veterans and their families.

Renfrew is a vibrant inner city community in Calgary, bordered by Edmonton Trail to the west, Nose Creek Valley to the east, the Trans-Canada Highway to the north and the Bow River escarpment to the south. The downtown core is within three kilometers and is directly accessible by Edmonton Trail.

Residents also enjoy direct access to walking and cycling paths as Renfrew borders the Nose Creek Bike path, which connects in the north with the West Nose Creek pathways and in the south with the Bow River Pathways.
